Maritime Washington National Heritage Area

Over the past several months, Fishboat Media has had the distinct honor and privilege of working with the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and the Maritime Washington National Heritage Area to produce a series of videos intended to introduce the public to the new program, communicate the vibrancy of Washington’s maritime heritage, and highlight a selection of diverse communities along the shores of the heritage area.

Showcase Video: This is Maritime Washington

“This is Maritime Washington” is the first release and centerpiece of the series, and features small vignettes from several upcoming profile videos in which you’ll visit the tidepools and coastlines of Washington State Parks, transit Puget Sound with Captain Genevieve Fritschen of the Washington State Ferries, attend a salmon ceremony and Blessing of the Fleet with the Swinomish, go tide to table with Chelsea Farms Shellfish Company, get hands-on history with the shipwrights of Haven Boatworks, LLC, and set sail with the Sound Experience aboard the Schooner Adventuress.

Profile Video 1: Marine Trades

“Marine Trades” takes viewers to Port Townsend, WA for a conversation about craft with Esther Whitmore, lead shipwright at Haven Boatworks.

Profile Video 2: Ferries

“Ferries” takes us aboard the iconic Washington State Ferry system with relief captain Genevieve Fritschen.

Shipwright Sessions

Born in the boatyard, Shipwright Sessions was the catalyst behind Fishboat Media, and is the first in a series of videos to come. We’re fortunate to find ourselves in the midst of so many amazing sights and stories and can’t wait to share more.

Episode 01: Caulking

In this episode, we sit down to talk with Brad Seamans of the Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-Op, who recently wrapped up some of this time honored craft on the F/V Polaris, a storied 100+ year old Halibut Schooner built and maintained right here in Washington State.
